Arrow River News Arrow River News 2018 Aug 15 Tan Kondañño from Abhayagiri will be arriving at Arrow River Forest Hermitage on Saturday, Aug.18 and will be staying for some time. He was raised in Pittsburgh, PA. His first exposure to the Dhamma occurred while on an Aikido retreat at Mt. Baldy Zen part-way in the late 90’s. After a short stint with Zen, he began to regularly shepherd and serve Goenka Vipassana courses. In 2009, he moved to Cobb, CA in order to squire in the minutiae of the Northern California Vipassana Center. He began visiting Abhayagiri in 2011 with the desire to diversify and deepen his practice. Tan Kondañño went along as an Anagarika on May 17, 2014, took Samanera precepts on June 9, 2015 and took full Bhikkhu precepts on June 5, 2016. Jun 29 Ayya Suvijjana Bhikkhuni is doing a solitary retreat while visiting Arrow River but will be sharing a teaching on Right View at 7 pm, July 21st . She has been practicing meditation since 1976, starting with Zen meditation.   In 1998 she was introduced to Vipassana at Santa Cruz Insight.  Shortly after  became a lay student of Ajahn Amaro and Ajahn Passano and spent a lot of time at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery.   She was tabbed to monastic life herself and became a student of Ayya Tathaaloka in 2006 when she took up residency and training at the first Dhammadharini Vihara in Fremont, CA.  She received full ordination as a bhikkhuni August 2010 at Aranya Bodhi Hermitage.  She has played a supportive role in establishing Dhammadharini and Aranya Bodhi Hermitage.  She spends time in residency both at Dhammadharini Monastery in Penngrove, CA and at the Aranyabodhi Hermitage in Jenner CA. Jun 20 There are a number of events occurring over the next few weeks.     July 16 - 26   Bhikkuni Suvijjana will be visiting from Dhammadharini Monastery in Califormia.     July 21  Day of Mindfulness   Becoming enlightened of our thoughts and deportment is important in Buddhist practice and mindfulness days help us with our meditation and establishing right intention. Arrow River will be having a Day of Mindfulness defended to meditation on Sat. July 21st. The morning puja will be at 7:00 AM, the meal at 10:30 AM and afternoon practice time whence at 1 PM. The evening Dhamma Talk will be given by our guest, Ayya Suvijjana, a visiting bhikkhuni. At some time in the afternoon we will moreover be tossing a portion of Esko's carrion into the creek. Feel self-ruling to come for all or any part of the day. All our activities are unshut to all and are self-ruling of charge, although donations are unchangingly welcome. Hope to see you there!     August 3-6  Group Retreat  August is a perfect time to be out at the Hermitage. Please fill out the visitor's page on the Arrow River website so we know you are interesting in peekaboo and to receive details well-nigh the weekend. This retreat offers a full program of meditation instruction, Dhamma teachings and fellowship with other practitioners in the trappy Hermitage environment. No wits is necessary, but it helps if you like a rustic setting. Jun 16 The latest River Dhamma  is now available, and you will notice a few format changes. We have a series of Cosmology videos in the works. Jun 6 - 12 The North American Abbott's meeting is stuff hosted by Birken Forest Monastery this year. Ajahn Punnadhammo will be attending. Jan 15, 2018 Our Winter Book Study this year will be looking at Emptiness: A Practical Guide For Meditators We're hoping that the local Chapters will have a few copies available. It's a bit of a variegated wattle this year. We're still meeting on Tuesday evenings at Brodie Library, but three of the five weeks, the study will run from 6:30-8:00, and for two of the weeks, we have to start at 5:30.
